Open Letter from Lieutenant Colonel David L. Revell,
Senior Army Instructor
1 February, 2008
Dear Parents:
The SMA JROTC Department will be conducting its 2008 Leadership Camp from 9-13 April, 2008.
This five-day course is being offered to those students who are interested in participating
in JROTC for School Year 2008-2009.
We will conduct the majority of our training at Camp Bullis outside of San Antonio.
Our training will be a balance between adventure type training (rappelling and orienteering)
and leadership training. We will focus on providing your son or daughter with skills
(in a safe, challenging and fun environment) we believe will help them to be successful in
JROTC next year. Participation in Leadership Camp does not guarantee a leadership position
in JROTC. Cadets will be expected to pass written and performance tests in order to be eligible
for key positions.
The cost for Leadership Camp 2008 is
$125.00. This cost includes bus transportation to all
training sites, meals, lodging, and a Leadership Camp T-shirt. Payment may be made by enclosing
a check (Made out to SMA) with your application. It is important that you complete the application
response form
(see below)
and mail or fax it to me as soon as possible. If I
fail to receive your application by
March 31st, I will assume that your cadet is not attending
Leadership Camp.
If they accept this invitation to Leadership Camp 2008, they so with the understanding
that virtually all of time from the afternoon of April 9th until the afternoon of April 13th will be
devoted to intense leadership training. Therefore, your cadet should come
prepared to work hard both physically and mentally. We will conduct physically strenuous training
daily. Cadets will be issued BDUs and a pair of boots for this training. Other items that they will need
to bring are listed in Enclosure 2. Please ensure that you have a fresh haircut that is in strict compliance
with JROTC standards before we depart. You will not have time to get a haircut after Leadership Camp begins.
Regardless of your decision concerning Leadership Camp, I look forward to having your student
remain in the JROTC program for School Year 2008-2009.
